HAMILTON (Sept. 2, 2015) Ten Mohawk College faculty, staff and teams were recognized today for putting students and learning at the heart of all they do.
The college’s top awards were presented during Mohawk’s Annual President’s Breakfast. The recipients of the Mohawk Awards of Excellence and President’s Award were nominated by the colleagues.
Eight individuals and two teams received Awards of Excellence this year. Three of those individuals and one team were also chosen to receive the President’s Award.
“Congratulations to all of the President’s Award and Mohawk Awards of Excellence recipients and to all of the nominees on their well-deserved recognition,” said President Ron McKerlie. “Our award-winning faculty and staff lead by example and help make Mohawk a great place to learn and work.” .
2015 President’s Award Recipients:
Kelvin Lee is Mohawk’s lead Student Recruitment Officer for the Peel Region. Since taking over as lead recruiter for the Peel Region, the number of applications from this area has increased 30 percent. He is also a proud Mohawk alum, former varsity athlete and coach of the Women’s Volleyball team.
Marla Robinson is an Industrial and Motive Power professor from Mohawk’s Stoney Creek Campus who over the last year worked closely with the Industry Education Council of Hamilton to develop and deliver an employment training program for at-risk youth. Marla also developed and delivered the second year of a contextual math dual credit course for disengaged secondary school students in Hamilton.
Karen Moore is Mohawk’s Chief Financial Officer. Departments look to Karen for guidance on complex financial issues. Karen and her team have met or exceeded all financial benchmarks provided by the ministry responsible for Colleges and Universities and they are often singled out for the quality of their work.
Mohawk’s Access Team, which includes team members Rose Gilles, Samara Young, Terrilynn MacMillan, Tracey Prokipczuk and Emily Ecker, is smashing down barriers to postsecondary education in Hamilton and transforming hundreds of lives in our community.
